Harvelle’s Long Beach is running a blues guitar doubleheader on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Celso Salim takes the stage at 7:00 PM. Jon Geiger follows at 9:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM at 201 East Broadway in downtown Long Beach.
Who Is Playing
Celso Salim is a guitarist out of Brasília, Brazil who moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and became one of Southern California’s most in-demand players. He started on guitar at age 6 and played his first stage show at 14. His sound pulls from Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, the Allman Brothers Band, and Jimi Hendrix. Slide guitar is his signature. For this show he brings Mike Hightower on bass and Dan Potruch on drums.
Jon Geiger grew up in New York and cut his teeth in the Austin music scene. Jazz greats Emily Remler and Hiram Bullock took him on as a private student, and Remler called him her protégé. He earned a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Robben Ford, John Mayall, Charlie Sexton, Doyle Bramhall, and Joe Ely have all hand-picked him to open their shows.
Geiger’s story includes two auto accidents. Doctors told him after the first that he would never walk again. He ran a marathon five years later. The second left him with no feeling in his hand. He rebuilt his playing anyway.
